Bread-machine recipe
1 1/4 cups buttermilk 2 tablespoons granulated sugar 2 tablespoons Burleson’s Pure Honey 1/4 cup butter or margarine, softened 1 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 3¾ cups bread flour 2 teaspoons instant or quick-acting yeast 1/2 cup chopped dried sweetened cherries 1/2 cup chopped pecans, toasted*
Measure carefully and place all ingredients except cherries and pecans in bread-machine container in order recommended by bread-machine manufacturer. Place container inside machine. Select Dough/Pasta Cycle. Press Start. When half-way through kneading cycle, add 1 more tablespoon flour, if needed to keep the dough from sticking to side of container. When cycle is complete, remove dough from container; knead the cherries and pecans into dough. Divide dough into three balls. Shape each ball into a rope. Place ropes on greased cookie sheet; braid together. Cover; let rise about 45 minutes or until nearly double in size. Bake at 350º for 25 to 30 minutes or until golden brown. Makes 1 loaf. Serves 10.
*To toast pecans, place in microwave-safe dish. Microwave on High for 2 to 4 minutes, stirring once, depending on the wattage of your microwave oven. Allow to cool before adding to recipe.
